A Biblical Meme

Saturday, July 5, 2008

Mum-me from our aussie half-dozen has tagged me for this biblical meme & its looks really good, so I decided to play along!

Here are the rules of the game:
1. Choose a person in the Bible who most represents who you are.
2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration, scripture or bible story if you like
3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere.
4 .Tag five more blogs with links.
5. And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play!

I have found this really difficult - not because I don't know the women of the bible, but because I can see little bits of myself in so many of them. Ultimately I would love to be like the Proverbs 31 woman - she is God's example of a beautiful woman, so strong in her faith, in her life, & in her many different roles - certainly a goal to look towards. This made me think of King Lemuel's mother(Prov 31) - all we hear about her is she was his mother & she taught him about life with such wisdom - how I try to wisely teach my children.
Then there is Mary the mother of Jesus - now I know she was especially chosen by God in this role, but what I love most about her isn't the birth bit, but the way she followed Jesus' ministry - you hear occasional references to her. There is only one time when it is recorded that she tried to get him to focus on her & not his ministry - how I would love to encourage all my children in whatever ministry God leads them. Of course there is also Mary & Martha - I have always felt an affiliation with Martha - who tries so hard to please Jesus & bless him with her hospitality, but in doing so misses the point that he wants her to stop & focus on him - so often I get so busy I find it hard to find time to stop, but then I also see a little of myself in Mary - I do love to stop & focus on Jesus - I hope if he was to come to my house this is what I would do, but I fear I would be rushing around in a flurry!

As for tagging people - if you would like to play along - consider yourself tagged!!!

Thanks for playing along.
I love how you took this so seriously and deeply, just what I was hoping for.
I love all of the women you mentioned and so many of them are women I too considered when I was choosing mine.

This was really interesting Renata - very thought-provoking. Pity my brain isn't working too well at the moment! I'm not sure who I'm like. Have you ever read The Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers? It's a beautiful, wonderful book about 5 women of the Bible- well worth a read!

Hi Renata
There was a dear lady at church that died a few years back and her children did the eulogy. It was amazing to see how they honoured her and talked about how she really was like the Proverbs 31 woman. And you know what, she was pretty amazing and the most like that example of anyone I know. We had just gotten back from our time away and she got sick and died very quickly. It was probably one of the nicest funerals I've ever been to because while she was very much missed she had lived a life that honoured God and had showed such love to her children and husband and her girls (girls brigade). Her husband was a great example to many in our church as he dealt with his grief. Even sweeter is that last month he remarried another beautiful lady from church who's husband also died suddenly at about the same time.
You are amazing yourself Renata. Thank you for sharing this.

I liked your meme. I often feel like Martha. It's hard to just 'sit at Jesus feet' when there are children wanting you ALL THE TIME for something or other, isn't it?
