Just a little bit

Today at church our guest speaker gave a really great illustration & I just wanted to share it with you - I'm not sure where it's origin was, so if you know, I would love to give credit where credit's due:


Two teenagers asked their dad if they could go & see the current "cool" movie that was out. They listed all the good points of the movie & explained that everyone was seeing it. The dad had heard of this particular movie & knew it has a sex scene in, so he said No! The kids were dissappointed " but dad, that only goes for 1 minute & the movie is for 2 hours"!

The wise father went into the kitchen & began to make some hot chocolate. He gave both kids a cup & they eagerly drank (thinking he must feel bad for declining their request). "Yum dad - this is great, so how did you make it?"

"Well" said the father, " I used all the normal ingrediants, but just one extra, but don't worry it was just a little bit, just a pinch!" Of course this got them curious & they just had to know what the extra ingrediant was.

"Dog poo" said the dad, "but don't worry it was just a little bit & I used lots of the good ingrediants"

The point of this is that it is so important to be careful of what you hear, see, do, say - just a little bit can effect the rest of your life. Don't lower your standards by just a little bit!

I've heard that before too, and I thought it was very good, but of course, I have no idea who to attribute it to either.

Great illustration, I will be sure to share this with my two oldest when they get back from their mission trip (going with Mission of the World to West Virginia to put a roof on a church, running a bible school and taking care of some house projects for two widows).

Loved the illustration - how true it is. But it is also very, very difficult to try and keep all the 'dog poo' out of TV and movie viewing. Not so bad when the littlies are all your darling's ages, you can totally control their TV viewing, but harder as they get older.
That verse from Philippians is a great one. One worth memorizing, and recalling very regularly...

And I truly loved the illustration you had on your recent post. It is soooo true! The verse you gave is also the guideline in our family too. As parents, we have some decisions to make but that verse makes it easier!
