The best tiramisu ever!!!

Saturday, August 2, 2008

Tomorrow our church is having a "guess who's coming to dinner" - Basically you sign up as guest or host (we signed for either) & someone "matches" the different families. The hosts supply the lunch (called dinner out here in the country - I'm always calling dinner "dinner" but here it's "tea" - yes I did in fact think this was an evening meal at first) & the guests supply the dessert! We've been told we're guests & to make enough dessert for us & 2 other people . We'll all be told who's going to whom's place tomorrow at church!!

Since I have to make dessert I thought I would pull out my old tiramisu recipe which was very popular with our friends up north. (I know it is more of a summer recipe, but it's easy, it works & most people like it & I don't know how I could keep something hot during church.) Here goes:
TIRAMISU:

ING: 250g philly cream cheese; 1/3 cup sugar; 3 tbs coffee liquer (I just used vanilla here as it is a baptist church & we're new & I don't want to rock any boats); 1 tsp vanilla essence; 900mls cream (definitely not for people on a diet - I promise to just have a teeny tiny piece); 24 ladyfinger sponge fingers; 1 cup strong brewed coffee; 1 cup chocolate (grated);

METHOD: * Mix with an electric beater the cream cheese, about 1/4 cup cream; sugar, liquer (or vanilla as I used); & vanilla.

* Whip rest of cream until stiff peaks form. Fold into cream cheese mixture.

* Arrange 1/2 sponge fingers in a glass dish ( I use a 4.5L dish, but it really is too big - my smaller ones have both been broken - yes I am very clumsy at times). Sprinkle with half of the coffee & spoon half of the cream mix on top. Sprinkle with 1/2 the grated chocolate. Repeat this layering process.

* Cover & refrigerate. Best if left overnight!

Hope the people we're going to are prepared for very busy toddler twin boys!

Yummo!!!!!!! Haven't had that for ages! Hope you all have a great lunch (sorry dinner!!!!! - in our family we grew up with breakfast, dinner & tea - but then my parents came from nearby districts to where you live - I remember how much fun we had when we lived in the UK for a couple of years, people would invite us for 'tea' and we didn't know if they meant afternoon tea or dinner or what!!! We solved it by asking what time they'd want us to come, and guess which it was!!!!)
I hope your hosts enjoy the tiramasu - I reckon we could do with some here today (computer problems :~( !!!)
Lots of love to all,Take care & God bless Mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now Renata, you know that tiramisu is my favorite! How am I going to resist making this?

Oh well, I already ruined my diet this weekend anyway.

"Guess who's coming to dinner" is such a fun idea! I wish our church had stuff like that.
