Children speak!

Monday, August 4, 2008

We have one of those children - you know the ones - who love to give answers in children's talks at church - who ALWAYS has to include her input - & never in a quiet voice, but always loud enough for EVERYONE to hear (even those with hearing difficulties). Whenever children's talk is announced at church (we have one every week ) we find ourselves tensing wondering what's going to come out of our princess's mouth this week - the first week we were here our pastor Michael asked "What happens when people are naughty?" to which she replied "they need a big smack!"
Sunday was a doozy - as usual kids talk was announced & all the kids went to the front - including Ellie & Zai. We sat holding our breath, waiting to see if we were to get away without any family secrets (OK we don't really have any) being aired to our whole church family (there's no doubt on our stance on spanking anyway). This week Michael decided to talk about God being around forever - no beginning & no end. Well his first question was "What's something very old?" to which Zai answered "God" - great, childrens talk done (what a bright little boy - must take after his little old mummy LOL). Unfortunately Michael changed his tact - Does anyone know anyone who's 60? - yes 70? - yes names were named by other kids- does anyone know anyone who's 80? - well little miss just opened her mouth "MY DAD" - yes she really was refering to Dave - well this got the whole church in fits of laughter - Of course we were bright red trying to hide behind the pew in front of us (he's 29 fyi).
After the talk Michael got the kids to sing a song & while doing this he had two blow-up guitars for them to play - well as you can see our son really outdid himself on his rocking & rolling - yes everyone was in laughter again - it even made it onto our church's blog!

It's alright they will still let us attend!!LOL

As for the "guess who's coming to dinner" - it was great - they waited til after all the "hosts" had left to give out the names of who's place the guests would go to - so the host had no idea who would arrive at their door! We had a lovely time at an older couples place (they live near almost all their grandkids, so their house is child proof!) Another older couple & her mother came as well & it was so nice to get to know these people a bit better !!

My kids are very shy about answering the questions at Children's Story, so your daughter makes me smile.

Oh, we have one of those as well! Our treatment of toads has come up in several childrens talks. "God made all the animals" "except toads" says lion "God even made toads" the minister assures "but thay are yucky, we get the shovel and we WHACK THEM OVER THE FENCE!!!!" Minister politely ignores the McTavish family's disregard for god's creation and moves on with the childrens talk... McTavish parents die of embarassment... Then there was the time he crash tackled one of his friends in the middle of a childrens talk... make that the christmas childrens talk, the most packed one of the year and mummy McT had to wade her way through 2 dozen kids to pry her 3 year old off his friend and wade her way back out to march him out of church... "but he was distracting me mummy"

We had a little princess who liked to answer all the time in the kid's talk - fortunately, there weren't too many!!! Her name starts with R... and I have a funny feeling that she's very, very closely related to your little princess!!!!!! Anyway, I hope poor old Dave's feeling alright and recovered from the shock of how old his lil princess thinks he really is!!!!
Life's never dull down on the farm!!! Love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oops!!
Poor Dave, hope he's not too upset. As long as it doesn't make him suddenly have a premature mid-life crisis.
Zai must have learnt his dancing off his mum...

Sounds like Ellie is going to fit beautifully into school, Renata! My little princess is very shy and never really answers questions.... we are doing lots of work on her confidence! Funny thing is that at home, she never ever stops talking......

Ha! I laughed so hard at this! When Bee was younger, she was the same way, and we were ALWAYS embarrassed in church, though everyone else seemed to find her insights hilarious!

Love the picture of Zai - he's quite the rock star!
