A new kitty & a little miss & wed lunchbox!

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Yes it is a new kitten - now I'm not a cat person - in fact I've always thought the bumper sticker that says " I love my cat...it taste's like chicken" hilarious!! I know you're wondering why another kitty - I had actually organised to get one of this batch of kittens before Dave had organised to get Gingy. The farmer who had this was going to shoot it, & since the mice will be bad around here soon, well I felt sorry for the little fellow.
If you're wondering about it's choice of accessories... Ellie, Eli & Jud was playing with "Sunday icecream (another Zai name)" & 'somehow' this stacking ring ended up around it's neck! When Zai came home from school he & I tried & tried to remove it: Zai didn't give up until he got it off (about tea time that night!).

*****************************************************************

What should I do with a little girl that is too 'sick' to do her jobs in the morning, but has a remarkable recovery at morning tea time?

This happened today & so I didn't let her have any treats at all - no milo in her milk, no bikkies, just plain milk & bread - mean- maybe- but we try to jump on lying in our household.

Why is parenting so hard ...as the tears coursed down her face & she tried to convince me in her very sweetest voice she felt "all better now, mummy", I (the mean mummy) stood my ground & said I didn't want her to get sick again, so no treaties - but inside my heart was wrenched by those big brown tear-filled eyes!

********************************************************************
Saminda is asking what we pack for a week in our children's lunch box, so here's todays effort:

(I didn't realise til right now how bad the apple looks in the picture - really it is an apple grown locally & they are delicious & the skin isn't as bad as it looks here!)

An apple; a jam sandwich (Zai doesn't like salady sandwiches - strawberry jam was his request!); a lemon square; some rice crackers & some sultanas (in top section of lunchbox:)

BTW Zai came home in the first week of this term & said "Mum, my new lunchbox broke today at school". I was quite annoyed as I had just bought this lunchbox for this term (his previous one had broken as well). When I questioned him further how it happened he looked sheepishly at me & quietly confessed that he had slidden it down the handrail of the stairs at school & it had fallen onto the cement at the bottom - guess who's not getting a new lunchbox until the end of the year!

...boys will be boys!!

Yummy looking lunch! Very healthy!
Well done Mum being strict. It's hard to do, but necessary.
Poor kitty! How long did it take to get that off?

Will you pack a lunch for me too please? I promise I won't break my lunchbox and will eat each bite. It's no fun being a mom all the time. You did the right thing no matter how much strength it took to pull it off. You did well and she'll be better for it.
I am not a cat person either but couldn't have stood to allow such a fate to happen. How many more lives does that cat have now? He's blessed!

mmm, lemon squares, I have been feeling like some since reading the last lunch box blog, might be making some of them before the week is out! Being a mum is so hard sometimes, one thing I like is that a mummy cuddle is still the best thing to fix the pain (for all involved) after a mummy smack (sounds like I hand out smacks just to get the cuddles, I dont). And as for that bumper sticker, I've got to get me one of those!!! When I was 12 our puppy got a short fat cardboard tube stuck on it's head, I was in tears, she was fine:)

Parenting is HARD - and YOU are a good mom!

Oh, I LOVE lemon squares. Unfortunately, they don't fit in my diet.

I understand your feelings...parenting IS hard. We have a rule at our house that if the kids don't eat their meals, they get nothing else until the next meal. No snacks, nothing! It's very, very hard to say no, because I know they're hungry, but if I let them have snacks, then they don't eat their meals! Aaarrgghhh!

The new kitty is very cute!

it's hard to stick to our word and not let them get their way... the tears melt me and I have a bad habit of giving in. Good for you for following through!!

Oh, I am so happy that though you aren't a kitty person, that you rescued the wee kitty.

I am an animal person...I just can't seem to help myself...they are so furry and cute. I am sure you will be blessed.

Funny lunch box tale-kuddos for honesty.

You did good, Renata!

When Lee skips his chores due to a "stomachache", he can lay in bed as long as he likes, but NO ANYTHING else until he catches up on his work.

Needless to say, he wants to live and Grandma and Papa's house!

Lunches here have to be nut free and it is sometimes hard to come up with sandwiches and treats on an ongoing basis. Count your blessings.

Little princess's recovery reminds me a bit of the amazing doctor's waiting room healings we had with a certain aunty!!!!! Still, sometimes you just have to be tough!!! (btw - it doesn't get any easier - telling a 17yr old that they can't do something isn't easy either - in spite of what that 17 yo might have thought at the time!!!) Now, you're wondering who and what!!!! (You!!!!) Still, parent's are the boss! It's amazing how young littlies can come up with excuses for not doing jobs!
Zai's patience and sticking at a problem til its solved reminds me very much of a certain Grandad! What's so amazing is how long did it take to get it on the poor little kitty????
Lots of love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hey did you turn off the 'security' thing where you had to type in the weird letters displayed on the screen, cos they're gone, and my last one went without it!!!!! (I had trouble seeing what the point of it was!!!) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes mum, I turned it off - it's an anti-spam thing, but I thought I'd see if spam is really a problem as I know some people don't have it turned on & they seem to have no problem.

Lunch looks yummy!!! It is hard to be the "mean mummy" when they look up at you with those tearful, huge, soulful eyes...one of the hardest parts of parenting I think, I always want to give in because I hate seeing them sad but I try to stay strong.
