Labour day nappy capers!

I don't know what came over me at the shops last time I went - I always know that I need approx 65 nappies to get through the fortnight (scandalous hey - imagine what that's doing to the landfill) - well this time I only got 44.
All was going well in the nappy department until this evening - you see we've begun toilet training the twins (more from their own doing as they are always removing their nappies - often at inappropriate times), so today we put them both in undies. I knew in the back of my head the nappies were getting low & had planned on buying some at the nearest town after I dropped dinner into a neighbour who was unwell - but then realised it's a public holiday here - nothing would be open! Oh dear!

But it wasn't until I was getting their nighttime nappy that I discovered how low the nappies were - only 1 nappy left - 1 nappy - oh no! I did the mummy thing & started searching in bags, under beds, behind drawers all to no avail (why oh why did I let Ellie stop using pull-ups?!?!?) It got a bit more drastic - under lounges, in the toy room (I was prepared to use one that a stuffed toy had worn - they are boys after all -they have long urethra's!) still nothing - both cars (why I even though Dave would have one in his work van, I don't know, but I was desperate!) . Finally I began to think about our options - no nappy meant guaranteed wet bed - & the boys often like to climb into our bed - who wants a wet baby in bed with them - yuck! What about a partially used nappy - I mean how used is "used"? (Before you call DOCS I wasn't serious with this - it was a fleeting thought!) Finally out of desperation I came up with a solution - you see in each of their memory boxes I had put a baby nappy from when they were born (unused - just in case you're worried), so I dug through them until I came across one . Finally (& I'm not proud of the solution) we used it with undies on poor Jud - I noticed he was sitting a bit awkwardly afterwards - no wonder poor boy!
Oh well at least he's sleeping like an angel now!

Tomorrow we'll toilet train again & Dave can pick some up after work!

Yep, done that desperate search many a time. Thankfully we live a lot closer to shops and I have some cloth all-in-ones and terry squares that he HATES but it's preferable to nothing!

Great thinking! I have not been in that situation, YET, but I can tell you I would stop at nothing to try and find a "diaper"!!

Oh no! I had a similar situation with Sarah and had to use a swim nappy (not as absorbant as I thought). Hope the toilet training goes well. (Please make notes for when I get to start this lovely process with Cam).

Good luck with the toilet training. I hope they co operate. At least the weather is warming up so it's a good time to start the process.

I actually know someone who safety pinned a dish towel on her son's butt, and covered it with a makeshift pair of plastic pants...made out of a bread sack. So, an idea for next time, when the nappies run short!

You poor thing...having a wet baby in your bed is not nice...I probably would have resorted to a handtowel or the like...well he's still gorgeous...Love you all

Since I'm a cloth diaper fan (but not full-out fanatic) I also would have improvised with a towel and pin. And maybe a big bath sheet on the bed. :)

Good job.
