Sewing sweetheart!

One of my favourite things to do is to pull out my sewing machine & have some fun discovering my creative side. I've loved sewing as long as I can remember. I love the fact that my mum is a great sewer & so is both my Granny & Grandma. I love the fact that my mum gave me her machine that she bought when she was 17 & that I have created so many things on - from dolls clothes for my barbies - to clothes for uni - to honeymoon outfits. Unfortunately I haven't had the time (or rather made the time) to pull it out much recently, but the other day we had an unfortunate accident with one of Ellie's babies (involving 2 brother, lots of yelling, ripping & an amputated leg). Fortunately it was an easy fix & dolly was soon fully functional again. While I had the machine out, I thought it would be fun to give Ellie her first sewing lesson, so we pulled out some material & together we made this dolly skirt (OK it's more of a dress - next time I should measure it against the doll!!)

Ellie did such a great job & I'm already looking forward to our next lesson!

Yay for learning to sew young! I am so glad my mum taught me, just wish kids would let me sew without "help".

You are a good mum to give your daughter sewing lessons at such a young age. Ellie sure looks pleased with herself, and her dolly looks very happy with her new dress/skirt!

I never even thought of teaching my girls, and now Possum is doing sewing at high school!

I love to sew, too....as a child, my mother would copy dresses from the Sears catalog, and make them for me without even a pattern. I am not as talented, but I do enjoy it. Unfortunately, my machine has been out of commision for a year....when Camille was newborn, Charlotte Claire threw away a few parts, and I have yet to have them replaced....I should get if fixed, I would like to share with my little girls, too....

How how fun & sweet. I so wish I had a clue how to even turn my machine on. I stupidly bought a very expensive machine & for the life of me can't work it. UGH
So, it's all by hand for this mama. :(

Hey Ellie,
You did a great job!!! Your dolly looks beautiful in her new skirt! I am going to a wedding today, so I get to dress up pretty in my new dress.
Luv you heaps,
Aunty Sel.

I'm jealous...I can't sew anything! I have a machine, but I'm totally intimidated by it. My husband knows how to use it though. He learned in "bachelor survival" class in high school, so he does all of the mending.

Once, I tried to sew a button on a shirt, and ending up sewing the sleeve to my shirt. Yes. I'm so talented.

Ellie did a great job. Plus she's really cute!

So fun! I can see she's already in love with sewing too. I can sew straight lines and have sewn a couple quilt projects. I find I am someone who needs to be able to finish a project immediately for INSTANT GRATIFICATION otherwise I don't get them finished.

Hey Ellie, your dolly's skirt is sooooo lovely. And the ribbons in your hair are gorgeous... It was nice to see the old machine...it was a great machine (remind me one day to see about fixing up the fancy stitches....)Not sure how you're going to make time to sew, but it is fun...sometimes...lots of love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"Wow you are so clever Ellie. Love you" said Sarah. You are so inspirational, Renata. I should start teaching Sarah.
