My evening walk!

Monday, November 3, 2008

Yesterday evening I decided to finally go down to the crop & get those much promised pictures. I left after the kids were all in bed, but because the evenings are getting longer it was still twilight. The sunset was slowly beginning to fade, but there was still plenty of light left for me to see (which is important for snakes etc.). The air was crisp, but not cold - it was the perfect temperature really - exhilarating. It smelt of the freshness of country after a good rain!! God is so good. Thank you for each & every prayer you have been praying for us for rain. Sunday night we got a storm -with it was 18mls of rain for us!!

Here is a picture of me looking back the way I had come. To the left of the picture are two peach trees heavy with unripe fruit - I am looking forward to the fun of picking & preserving these in summer (does anyone have any good recipes??)

There was still remnants of the sunset as I looked towards the south (strange hey, but it had totally left the west by this time!)

I think this may be my favourite picture I've ever taken. The evening lighting gives an unreal effect to it! - no I don't own photo shop - can't process my pics (except for a basic program that allows me to cut them down) - what you see is what I take !

Finally I reached the crop. As you can see there is grain forming nicely in the heads. This extra rain should give it a boost. If you look closely in the middle of the picture you can see our next worry - the locusts on a head- but we are spraying them - that's all we can do.

We had an agronomist (who is basically a crop specialist) out here yesterday for his opinion - he said we would be silly to make it into hay - we will get a yield - not a particularly good one, but it will be enough to pay for a crop for next year - Praise God!

'Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.'

Acts 14:17 (NIV)

As hard as this move has been - with all it's ups & downs - I wouldn't change where I am.

God is good!

Thanks so much for telling that you got some rain! I was watching the weather radar on the internet on Saturday night and wondering if the rain actually got to you. Thank God it did, and thanks God for answering our prayers!

Your photos are really, really nice. I like the one of the fading sunset best (are you surprised?) We have a photo editing program, but I only use it to crop my photos. I personally think that a good photographer shouldn't really need to edit their photos to make them look better - although I know they mosly do these days.

Hi Renata. So glad you got some rain. Hope it helps your crops.
Looking at your photos makes me miss living in the country all over again. Guess I will just have to take the kids to the beach this afternoon to remind me why we live on the coast. LOL.

Hi! First time commenting on your blog tho I read it from time to time off of Mum-me's- the other Half Dozen!!

I can relate to your worry over the crop. We too took on an adventure this year. We bought farm land 450 mi. from our home-we did not move. Our wheat crop tho irrigated did poorly as it was a late cold spring so the heads did not fill out. Hard way to start out but its all in the farming.

Hope all else is going good for you as you have alot going on.

I'm so thankful for the rain! God is faithful :)

Gorgeous pictures, as always.

Also, I really enjoyed your story about how you and Dave decided to move to the country. It's good to know a little bit of your history!

I had peach and apple jam once, that was yummy. So glad you got rain, praising God with you and praying for some more, but not too much the crop spoils. The fine balance of farming.

Beautiful photo's, wish I could have been there with you...
So glad you got the rain, I had been keeping an eye on the radar that night and was praying specially hard.
I have just been harvesting beans, snowpeas and herbs from my garden, just enough for dinner (actually way to many beans..)
Give all the littlies a big hug for me.
