What's your choice?

Death - a topic that we don't like to talk about because it's so sad, but it's as much a part of life as birth. Although this sounds morbid, I've been thinking a lot about this subject since yesterday. You may have seen it on the news - one of the pilots who we actually know was up flying his aerobatics plane (he was a very experienced aerobatic pilot) when something went wrong & it ended up spearing into the ground - death instantly.

So I couldn't help thinking what was it like for him - one instant he was in this world (albiet above it to a certain degree) the next instant eternity - either with God (heaven) or without God (hell). His life on earth was finished - every chance he had of deciding where his eternal destiny lay was over - his time was up. So where is he now? I have no idea - I didn't know him well enough to even have a hint of whether he was a christian or not - anyway that was between him & God. But it sure makes you think - do you know where you would be? I do. I have the complete reassurance of an eternity with the Lord. "If you confess withyour mouth, "Jesus is Lord," & believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9 (NIV) . We only have our life on earth to make this choice - to ask God's forgiveness of our sins & to live for him. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful & just & will forgive us our sins & purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 (NIV). When you think that life on earth is what.. maybe 60 odd years.... you may even get to 100 years or like this pilot it may be 40 odd years, then you really need to consider what a short time this is in comparison to eternity. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one & only son, tht whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (NIV). Is it really worth living for yourself? Is it worth taking the gamble that your time won't be up in the next second & your chances of changing your eternal destiny will be over?

Please pray for the pilot's wife & family & also his many friend.

When we've been there ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun

We've no less days to sing God's praise

Then when we first begun!

(Amazing Grace - last verse - by John Newton)

That must have been very traumatic for your husband and co-workers. I'll keep them, and the family, in my prayers.

What a beautiful post brought on by such a tragedy. I am so sorry for his families' loss and will pray for their strength to make it through this difficult time.

Well said Renata! I can never understand why agnostics and atheists are so reluctant to look carefully at this issue when the cost of getting it wrong is so very high.

This is a great post Renata.

I've been thinking about death recently too. I worry for my family members who are getting older, and I know they're not Christians. I've tried to talk to them, but they have their minds made up. As you say, it's between them and God. I cannot force them to believe.

What a really thoughtful and well written message. I pray that all that read your blog will be touched, and consider their own situation. It's very easy to think we're going to be here forever. Last night I was feeling a bit sad about the loss of my car (I think it will probably be written off) & then I read a chapter of Brother Yun's 'Living Water', and felt very ashamed of myself...do I care as much about the loss of those who don't know the Lord?????? It's so easy to get very caught up in this world and forget that people only have one chance...so thanks for your reminder- to pray for the lost,& get about doing the Lord's work and not waste this life...Keep growing in the Lord...lots of love Mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

yes I did hear about that tragedy and it is so sad to hear of such a sudden death! I totally agree - it's events like that which make you consider your life and how well you are living it as it may well be taken away at any instant. I also love that verse from Amazing Grace - like most well know songs -I don't really remember the end stanzas well, so it was great to read those words.
