Twin reflections!

Thursday, March 12, 2009

In the last month my twins have really obtained a sense of "self". They now know their own names - whereas before they both called each other "Jud" , now it's "Eli hit me" or "Jud took the car". It's so cute! So I was interested in their reaction to their own reflection - do they know they look alike?

Yesterday I put Jud in front of the mirror & asked him who the reflection was thinking that this time ( I love this game - after all didn't God give me id twins to have a bit of fun with!!!!LOL) he might realise that it's himself - but no - "Eli" he said! So I put Eli in front & asked him - of course he thought it was Jud. So I tried to explain about reflection (they really weren't that interested in how light is reflected off objects, but hey that's what you get with a mum who loved physics!!). So then I tried to get him to observe his clothing & see if it's the same as the mirror boy or different - but he still seemed confused.

So thinking I was being smart I pulled both boys in front of the mirror thinking surely they would realise they look alike - but Jud just stared in amazement & said " Two Eli's " & the same reaction from Eli - "two Jud's ".
Guess I shouldn't really want them to realise that they look alike - because that's when the fun will begin!!!

cute boys! And cute story. I dont know when my boys figured out who was in the mirror or if they have yet. But Ethan still thinks any pictures of twin baby boys is Ethan and Hunter and the other day he was looking at a picture I took of them not to long ago where he was yelling and told me it was Hunter screaming.

What handsome little men, you must just want to squeeze their cuteness to pieces. I love how they called themselves Jud. Too funny!

How gorgeous!!! But you're right, once they realize they look alike, let the fun begin......lol....I remember all of you liked to look at the kid or baby in the mirror, but I don't know at what age the realization kicks in that it's a reflection!!! I think identical twins show that God has a sense of humour. Anyway, twas good to talk to you and thanks for the lovely photos on your blog...they are really very precious. give our love to all
Lots of love Mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wow Narn, so you've started playing psyche games on them (just kidding). They are so gorgous. They had looked so disappointed when we would take photo's of them and they they looked at the photo and thought it was the other.
I am about to go for my last lecture of the block. Tomorrow is the big presentation...

How cute! I'd never thought about how identical toddler twins would process their own reflection.

That's so funny! It never even occurred to me that they wouldn't recognize their own reflections. I think that raising twins must be really fascinating.

They're so cute! They're starting to look really grown up lately!

So cute - our boys did the same thing. I will still ask them every once in a while something like "Do you think you look like your brother?" They always say no.

Cute post! Never thought of that before!!

Can Zai and Ellie tell them apart?

My son dated an id twin. The only way I could tell them apart was when "our" twin would smile first when she seen us. :)

That is so cute. Get all the fun out of it while you can because the tables will turn soon enough and you'll be the one confused!
