I can't believe he's seven already!

7 years ago I was adjusting to one of the biggest, most demanding & most rewarding roles of my life- motherhood. It's hard to believe it's been just over 7 years since Zai was born - time sure does fly when you're having fun!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY PRECIOUS BIG BOY!!
We started the day with our traditional 'birthday hunt' - Zai is such a caring person that even though he woke up around 6am, he looked in to see that everyone else was still asleep so he went back & lay on his bed until Daddy woke everyone up (how many 7 year olds are so sensitive to other people's needs?)

Unfortunately Zai's big present this year was a motorbike - now 'someone' had bought this without trying Zai on it & sadly it was much, much too big - lesson learnt don't buy without trying the child on it. We told Zai we would sell it & buy him a smaller one. (Must get to doing that!) He doesn't mind he said he really doesn't want a motorbike until he's older!!
Zai was so kind & he was worried that we were disappointed - he really tried hard to look happy with it even though just sitting on it scared him- my caring child!

I'm a little embarrassed to show this picture, because the cake was a flop - but Zai LOVED it (thankfully). I had to wait til I had another egg that morning (the chooks are only laying one a day between them at the moment because of the cold temperatures) to bake it & I know that it's always tricky to decorate a cake the same day it's baked, so was going to try for something easy, but then Zai decided he wanted a helicopter - well you have to use your imagination, but it kinda looks like one - well if you squint & turn your head this way-LOL

For his birthday tea we had some friends over & Zai had chosen homemade tomato soup (which is what's all over Jud's face) - it was delicious!!! (Must post the recipe sometime).

He also had one of his mates & family over the next night for tea as well - so two birthday dinners!!! YUM!!

I am so proud of you my boy - you have always been a precious gift & you keep on bringing so much love & joy to everyone around you - such a blessing from the Lord!!

Hi Zai & Narn,
Love your birthday photos, and tell Daddy he looks very handsome in his jarmies!!!!!!lol - Mother-in-law's can say that sort of thing Dav!!!!! Glad that Zai loved his cake - as long as he's happy, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks - I can remember some of mine looked terrible, but the birthday recipient usually loved them (or were good actors!!!). Anyway, Narn, I think yours looks great. Thanks for reminding us of Psalm 127:3 - about children being a gift from the Lord...Counting down - 4 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You did a great job on the helicopter cake! Don't fool yourself. I wouldn't even have attempted it myself. I would have let the bakery at the grocery store handle it. LOL What a sweet sweet young man you have. Good job mom!

Happy belated birthday Zai!

I have to admit when I saw the first photo of the cake I was thinking maybe a windmill ... but the second photo looks just like a helicopter. I think you did a great job - I would not have been brave enough to attempt.

What a nice little boy! Happy Birthday Zai!

I think the cake is very cute! I could tell it was a helicopter, especially in the second picture, where you could see more detail.

I can't believe that Bee will also be 7 in just a few months. It's like you blink, and they grow up!

HAPPY BIRHTDAY ZAI!!!

I picked that the cake was a helicopter and I straight away thought "man, she's brave!" that's one that I would have tactfully convinced my child that they didn't really want or perhaps a slab cake with a picture of a helicopter on it would be okay. I think you did great! GENIUS using a cone for the blades!

Happy birthday Zai! I can't believe he's 7 either. He looks and sounds like a lovely young man.
The cake is awesome. I wonder where he gets his interest in aviation?
A few people at work (do you remember Chris the wardie?) were asking after you. They love to hear how well you are doing. Thank you for your blog so I can keep up with you too!
