The Sabre - first restored flight!

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

After 16 years out of service.....3 years of restoration.... & numerous amounts of nerves by all involved...let me present to you

The maiden flight of the RAAF newly restored sabre!!!

(A little birdie called & gave me 40 mins to get there - we arrived just before it took off!!!)

Going up the runway - listen to that engine!!

Finally - airborne - I think everyone breathed a sigh of relief!!

The flight was beautiful - even to a person who's not an aviation buff (although being married to the person who restored the engine certainly made me appreciate the beautiful roar coming from them -lots of praying too!!!)!

I couldn't get the fanatic to turn for the picture!

A beautiful day for a flight!

Finally back on the runway!!

What a wonderful restoration - congratulations to all the Temora Aviation Museum crew who
were involved ( especially that good-looking engine guy!! - LOL)!!!

Wow!!!! We loved the video of it - it would have been awesome to have seen it in person - well done to that engine guy (and the rest of course)!!! I can see why the twins were excited on the phone the other day when talking about it! Grandad was very impressed with the video! And of course, who would expect Zai to look away from that to look at a camera pointing at him!!!! Lots of love to you all

Be still my beating heart. I would be terrified to think something could go wrong on that first test flight after all the repairs. SOOO glad all went well! You're husband is awesome!

How exciting, and as usual I like your photos but the one with the plane and the sun was just awesome!

Cool! That's so great that you got there in time. Did you tell the kids where you were going or did you surprise them just in case you didn't make it?
