Looking through the lens..

Well I thought I should do a blog post...but my brain is all here & there tonight - in my defense I think I'm fighting off a flu & hope the extreme tiredness I've been battling the last few days is the only symptoms I get. So instead of thinking & trying to be witty, I came up with a brainwave... why don't I look on my camera & bore you with the last few pictures...here goes..
Picture 1:
Last Thursday I opened up my potato cupboard to put a new supply in there & found that all the potatoes left had started to sprout.....all 35 of them - how bad is that? I told Dave that I had a potato patch in the potato bin! Of course I did what any farm wife would do...I planted them (after reading in my Carla Emery book "An encyclopedia of country living" to find out how - one of my very favourite books even if it is older than I am (thanks Mum for passing it on!)). We shall see how successful they are in about 3 months or so!!!
Picture 2: This is from today...guess who came over the fence...that's right the biggest living garden ornament ever. I know the garden doesn't look like much (except for all the barley grass (my constant battle during winter)& a few pea plants we planted in our first week of home schooling) - but there are actually lots of little herbs in there - except sadly cows actually like to eat herbs, so a lot of them are nibbled & my chamomile is eaten to ground level. Dave looked up mobile butchers for this baby today - at least then my herb loss would be worthwhile - & if the meat's not as tasty as we hope, well then it will go to dog food - imagine a years supply of dog food in the freezer !!! Thankfully Whitey didn't get to my brand new strawberry patch that is behind him - otherwise he would be "dead meat" already!!!MWAHAHAHA

Picture 3: Eli & I made some homemade laundry detergent today. I've had the ingredients for ages in the cupboard, but hadn't gotten around to making it. I finally decided to bite the bullet & give it a go - it's actually super easy - will tell you how effective it is after I've tried it for a while!
Any tips from anyone??

Picture 4:

This was after dinner (pumpkin soup tonight- YUM!)
The kids always love to pile on daddy - since I had the camera on the bench next to me, I grabbed it & took some shots - not a good one of Dave, but all the children look so happy - there really weren't any better ones of Dave either - he looked like he had high blood pressure in each one!!

Picture 5:

Of course then Dave reciprocated the favour while I was packing the dishwasher after dinner - so now you can see some more of our beautiful kitchen (I know - be thankful - & I am...well most of the time - just occasionally I daydream about ripping down these ghastly leaf tiles - I'd better wait til we've got some replacements however). Please forgive my farm clothes & my red face - I was laughing at the time!

Hope you've enjoyed a glimpse into my camera...
What's on yours?

I loved the glimpse!! You know I love ALL of your photos! :) You and your family are all gorgeous, yes even the cow in the vegie patch- gorgeous! Nibbling the herbs might be a bit much, but I know we'd love a cow around here. :)

What are your doubts Renata? Let me know - I'll be praying for you! You are an amazing woman and such a great Mum, and I count you as a sister in this journey of life and crazy motherhood!! Sending hugs your way,
Saminda. xo

Wow, we'd love to have that much honey!!

I love reading your blog, and I love having a friend from "across the creek". Everything is so different over there in the UK, it's so fun to read about it all....and I do dream about being somewhat of a farm wife too, so I guess I live vicariously through you!

I love all of your pictures, quite interesting....I think I will plant my potatoes the next time they sprout. Mine never sprout but they do get eyes, can I still plant them with eyes?

Boy hurr, that little gal of yours sure looks just like you, in my opinion....

That picture of you at in the kitchen is sooooo cute! I think you look darling, and I think our hair colours are very similar, maybe we're sisters!!!!!!

Great talking to you again!!

And thanks for being a great and consistent commenter on my blog, I love it....

I think I love everything today!!

The cow sitting in the garden made me laugh. Don't know why, but it just looks funny to me. Sorry it ate your herbs. Puts into perspective how upset my mum used to get when the chooks got into her garden.

Thanks for the lovely photos - we had pumpkin soup on Sunday night (great minds think alike.....) So glad that your strawberries survived!!! Dave's 'high blood pressure' wouldn't have been caused by the hands clasped under his chin????? It's a lovely photo of them all, and they all look so happy. It's hard to get everybody laughing at once!!! Hope the potatoes go well, and that you get a big crop! Let us know how the detergent goes....Have a lovely day, and I hope you get over the flu real fast. Love you all heaps. Mum xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

One of my favorite posts. LOVE IT and seeing this peek into your life. Hugs today. By the way, that cow would be cooked already if my herb garden had been eaten.

I used to chase lots of cows off my gardens when we lived on the dairy farm in NZ. Our neighbour's cows rarely escape but once a racehorse came to my front door... I'm serious! Our neighbour is a racehorse trainer and one day, one of her horses paid us a visit. I nearly dropped what I was carrying when I saw this huge horse standing outside the glass doors! As good hosts, we went outside and greeted him, he was so gentle. It was an amazing experience!

At least the meat wouldn't need extra seasoning after eating all your herbs:)

I think the shot of Dave looks about as good as can be expected when he has a child hanging off his head, and I doubt I will look as classy as you as I head off now to load the dishwasher in my pyjamas, half asleep because I have ignored it until 11:30pm... you'd think I'd learn after the 50th time.

Hope you are feeling better soon, it's no fun being sick.

How fun to just look through the lens (and thanks for giving me an idea for a blog post when I don't know what to write!)

Keep us posted about the potatoes and the soap. (ingredients????)

PS You always look so lovely!

Finally convinced the computer it's ok to look at your site. So much for upgrades!
How cool is that to grow potatoes. Hope it goes well.
And is Whitey really going to meet the butcher? Hope he tastes good.
And hope you don't fall foul of the flu. Take care.
