Finally, finally...

Farming was the first known occupation in the bible - in fact caring for the garden of Eden was Adam & Eve's job. We love the fact that we get the chance to delve a little bit into this wonderful lifestyle.
It's hard to believe that less than 4 years ago we were city slickers - totally entrenched in our life in the suburbs. We always had dreamed of living on property & knew that one day we hoped to, but are still amazed at times that we are here, living on 240 acres of beautiful Australia just 4 years later.

But has it all been easy - no - it requires hard work & dedication to the dream.  Sometimes it seems it would be a whole lot easier going back to the city, but we hope we never have to (we love our little piece of earth!).  Probably the most difficult thing we have had to deal with has been the frustration of very little rain over the past couple of years.  In fact for the past 10 years this part of Australia has been in drought.  Sure they've had little rains here & there, but never enough or at the right times.  We have seen wet summers followed by dry winters (the main growing season) , winters that begin well that dwindle into dryness in spring (when the plants need the final boost).  We dry farm here which means we realy on God for every drop of moisture to grow our crops.

But finally, finally it's happened -
the sound of rain almost every day
the splash of mud
the squish of paddocks
record rains in August
water tanks full
dams overflowing (for the first time in almost 20 years)
Finally I can say with confidence that
THIS IS NOT A
DROUGHT YEAR!!!!!!
PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is wonderful seeing our friends and neighbours happy,  their crops thick & healthy, paddocks full of knee-high feed & animals fat & satisfied!

James 5:7 (New International Version)

7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.

I know many of you have journeyed with us through the last couple of years & have prayed numerous times  for rain - a big thanks to each of you!

As I sit here typing the day is beckoning me - the sun is out, the temperature is rising, the birds are singing & the air is fresh!
I have many jobs I should complete, but I will go & spend a little time enjoying this beautiful time of year!
I hope you also enjoy your day!

Aaaah refreshing rain! Rain on!

I always love your big sky pictures! I grew up in big sky country, and even though I loooove my mountains, I still love to see a big sky!

It certainly has been a great year for rain. I've just scheduled a blog post where my 4 year old is pictured running through knee high grass - simply because she's never seen such long lush grass before!

Our dams are at 78% now (this time last year only 30%) and the rivers are flowing like I've never seen before. But spare a thought and a prayer for those just to the south who are still drought-declared. (Around Cooma).

I didn't realize that you had only been farming for 4 years Renata. When we went dairying in NZ we had absolutely no experience of dairy cows though my husband did grow up on a dry stock farm. The neighbours laughed at us, thought we were crazy. We were irrigated so not so dependent on rainfall. I am so happy for you to see those lush pastures and absolutely believe that God sends the rain in season to those who obey His statutes.(Lev 26 3-5) May He continue to bless Sunnyside Farm!

Hi Narn, How beautiful your countryside looks at the moment!!! It is a real answer to prayer - we all rely on our farmers for our food (well, we rely on the Lord, but it is He Who enables the farmers to give us our food. He sends the rain, and the sun and everything else - Praise Him! Glad that your friends are happy, I think it must be so hard to work and see it all wasted year after year after year. I admire their persistence (and thank God for them).
Looking forward to seeing your lovely green farm. Hope you haven't been getting bogged too many more times...ooopppssss....was I supposed to mention that (or will it be censored out of my comment) LOL!!!
Actually looking forward to seeing you all even more than your lovely farm.
Lots and lots of love to you all

Yes Our tanks too here are groaningly full! yay!
Though it has been so wet I was hoping for a little bit of dry and sun. Just to break the monotony for the kids.
But a few nice days have lifted us all.
Your property is looking beautiful.

Hi~
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog last week. Oh...I am so happy that you have received some much needed rain. :) We are trying to harvest our crops here and it keeps raining. We just keep saying that even though we would like some dry sunny weather....it could be much worse ...we could have a drought! Hope you can come back to my farm soon for another visit. I know I will be checking in on you again soon. I love hearing about your life! :)
