Total decadence in a mug!

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

My sister (thanks EJ) sent me an email with this recipe about 15 mins ago:

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE -

Seriously, 5 Minutes from start to finish!

ING: 1 Coffee Mug (Make sure it is Microwaveable); 4 tablespoons flour(that's plain flour, not self-raising); 4 tablespoons sugar; 2 tablespoons baking cocoa; 1 egg; 3 tablespoons milk; 3 tablespoons oil; 3 tablespoons chocolate chips(optional); a small splash of vanilla essence

METHOD: Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla essence, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (This can serve 2)

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world……..?Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

Now I'm not one to believe every email that I get, so I had to give it a go & since today is Ellie's preschool day & the twins are in rest time - now is as good a time as any, so I set to work:

My verdict - delicious - although very rich (seriously I don't think I could even eat half) but definitely a winner for those 'I need chocolate in any shape or form RIGHT NOW' moments! (I dressed mine up with some whipped cream to add that extra YUM factor!)

Unfortunately it does make a mess of the microwave, so my advice would be to put a plate under the mug to catch the overflow!

ENJOY!!

I gotta say, a most appropriate mug to use as well :)

Luv you

You're awful, that's all I can say :)

You don't realise that I have been known to rip the cupboards bare and then eat unsweetened baker's chocolate in moments of desperate need. And now...

Hmmm...maybe you're not so awful after all!!!

Sounds yummy.

Might have to treat my hubby to one of those and make him think I'm really awesome! It could happen.

I'm a huge follower of the 'life's uncertain, eat dessert first' philosophy! This looks brilliant for a quick dessert-first treat! And what timing! I just did the grocery shopping and felt very virtuous for resisting my ice-cream and chocolate fix - but now....

YUM! I must try this today! It seems like I always need a little chocolate around 3 PM.

There are times when chocolate is absolutely necessary and, for me, the richer the better. I will definately be trying this. Thanks!

I think I'll try this as a treat with Jon and Charlotte Claire....if I made it during nap time, I would probably have to eat it all...and I would be wise not to share the recipe with my older kids, I could just see them making themselves personal cakes daily...

I cannot believe you made that immediately after receiving the recipe.Have already told EJ she's a naughty gal for distributing such decadence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must say, I'm absolutely amazed that none of the aunties here have made it yet. Glad you ended up sharing it with the littlies...I could be tempted to make one when I need a choccy fix.....How impressive if you have a drop in visitor!
Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
