~First daybook for 2010~

For Monday 18th January 2010:

Outside my Window...

It is a beautiful sunny day. The temperature has turned cool after our scorching heat wave of the last couple of weeks. The leaves are being tossed eastward in the wind & the paddocks are turning a soft green beneath the summer golden brown as the weeds grow caused by our summer rains.

I am thinking....

About all I want to accomplish in this last week before we begin schooling again next week. Dave has finished his holidays & so this is a big catch up week on all those jobs I want to complete.

I am thankful...

That we had a wonderful holiday with Dave in spite of the heat. We have been tripping here & there & enjoying every part of it (& the best bit is that each trip counted as a field trip!!).

From the learning rooms...

Hopefully puffs of dust as I "spring clean" it ready for the new school year.

From the kitchen...

I have fruit soaking to make fruit cakes for a neighbour who I swapped some baking for a "farmyard friend". Also another neighbour broke his arm, so I want to take something to him & his wife who had to quit work to keep their farm going - I don't think she gets much time for kitchen work at the moment.

I am wearing...

My nightie. I had to pull out my "in-between season" nightie as it was much to cold for my summer one last night. (Yes, we are having a cool snap!)

I am creating...

Plans to get the curtains made for Zai's room this week. We have decided to go ahead & finish his room although every time we try & move him into it, he ends up in with Ellie. It's just that once school is back, a lot of my "spare" time to sew is taken up.

I am going...

Nowhere!!! After being out most of last week, a week at home sounds delightful!

I am reading...

The Bible - I'm into 1 John at the moment.

I am hoping...

That someone may be able to help me. I'm considering doing a preschool program with the twins this year & after any suggestions as to any that you've found to be good (or have you come up with one yourself?) - any good sites etc.?

I am hearing...

Eli & Jud playing racing with some of their match box cars- lots of car noises & "woo hoo's". Zai & Ellie are watching their new "Story keepers" DVD we got from Koorong when we visited Canberra last week. I highly recommend these - they have sections that are read straight from the Bible - all to a cartoon of what's happening. They are enjoying their last week of TV before we become a no TV zone during the week for term time.

Around the house...

Today is an outside day - we are going to clean out the greenhouse. I bought some different seeds & I'm hoping to get some planted today (while it's a beautiful temperature).

One of my favourite things....

Spending time as a family - having Dave home & it being much too hot for him to work outside means that we've had a lot of wonderful family time over the last fortnight.

A few plans for the rest of the week...

Cleaning; gardening; Peaches to preserve; Onions to pickle (if they work this time - the last couple of times they have gone mouldy, but hopefully if I water bath them, this won't happen); Farm work; Reading; Playing with the children; Catching up on the farm paperwork;

Hopefully the only "school" they will attend this year - in the old school house at the Pioneer Park at Griffith.
