Because it sure feels like yesterday that a tiny little dark haired boy was shown to me over the drape that separated me from the surgical team ( gotta love emergency cesareans after 15 hours of labour - NOT). It's hard to believe that my baby is already 8 .... I remember turning 8 myself - I had a birthday party!!
We had a lazy, quiet day planned at home, but our friends decided to surprise the birthday boy with a visit - it was so much fun & thankfully I had everything on hand for an impromptu party after all! The table soccer ("the best present ever" - direct quote from the birthday boy) was a big hit with the 4 eldest children playing with it nearly the whole day.
Keeping in the soccer theme - his birthday cake was a soccer field - OK, OK I know the goals aren't exactly opposite each other & the line marker needs to be replaced (think piping royal icing onto coconut), but hey the birthday boy loved it & that's what counts!
So I was thinking that in any other job after 8 years you would be considered experienced - but in parenting it seems that as soon as you are "experienced" in one stage, they move into the next stage - at least for the first one - I imagine after half a dozen you may be considered experienced!
Great photo - don't you love the hand!
Happy Birthday our precious boy !
We pray that you continue to be eager to know the Lord & to grow into a strong man of God!

Well we are nearing the 8 year milestone and I think yep 'experienced" is one thing I am ....At least in littlies:)
It looks like your Birthday boy had a fab time
Gosh - my baby was 18 on the weekend. I remember when he was 8 because he contracted pneumonia and was seriously ill. Another ten years came and went so quickly. Enjoy these boyhood years Renata when you get to make really cool cakes - you are doing a wonderful job! - Of raising your children and making them cakes that they love, absolutely no need to be Martha Stewart(thank goodness, no time for that!) My midwife wrote 'experienced' mum on my notes after 3 children - what does that make me now? Vintage perhaps - definitely not old. People keep asking my age these days and thankfully say 'Really' when I tell them!
Hey do come over and enter my giveaway - it is for my friends here this time.
Happy Birthday to your big boy! You can certainly count yourself experienced with the younger ones. (I am becoming experienced with teenagers at the moment. Maybe by the time my 4 year old hits the teens I will know how to handle that age?) I thought the cake looked great, and had to look very hard to spot some of the imperfections you described. We mums are hard on ourselves, aren't we? I always think the BD cakes I make are a 'flop' but the children always love them.
Happy Birthday!
I LOVE the cake, so glad to hear he had a great day

I love this and I do think that makes you experienced, although you are naturally nurturing and a kindred spirit. Blessing to you and your family.
hugs
Happy birthday! I can't believe it's been 8 years either! He looks like he had a fantastic time. Great cake. I think N would love one like that too.
Is there something you're not telling me???? You mentioned the 4 eldest playing on it all day - is that your 4 eldest(?) or are there a couple of ring in older ones (eg the parents???????????)
It certainly doesn't seem like 8 years since he came into our lives, but then I could say that how many times over for how many people??? As for 'experienced' - how could one define 'experienced'??? Certainly, a mother has to be very flexible as her roles change over the years (Wait til he gets to the "I'm not a kid" in one breath and in the next "I'm not an adult" - sorry you'll never live that one down!!!). A mother is constantly learning new things - I'm sure in the years ahead, there'll be times when you feel 'experienced' but there'll be times when you face things and feel totally 'inexperienced' - so whatever - keep trusting in the Lord - he will give you what you need, when you need it!!!
Enough rambling! Hope you all have a wonderful day and weekend. Sorry if I was a bit doozy on the phone yesterday, I was really tired!
Lots of love to you all, Mum xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi Mum
I meant the 4 eldest of the 8 children here since we had C's family visiting!
XO
I say a month into motherhood after all those sleepless nights and going thru giving birth qualifies as "experienced" in something. :)
Great cake!!! Happy birthday to your 8 year old!
I cannot believe I am a mom to 3 children in their 20s!! And the other three "little kids" ones are in their teens!!
And I'm about to be a granny!!
Take moments out to enjoy these years as soon your children will be those ages too! Waaaaay before you are ready for it! :)
Have a great weekend!!
Thanks for sharing a great day at your place. I won't mention how old mine are..... (smile)
Hugs

Well...Happy Birthday!
By the way- love your schedule....very similar to ours in fact. And just so you know we have 8 children and I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF AN EXPERT!!! I depend on God- ALL THE TIME. Because even if you have been through a stage- the next child does that stage differently :) he he he he- just keeps us mommies on our toes I guess :) I mean you wouldn't want to be bored - would you? :)
Happy Birthday to your handsome boy!
ps I have to say, although people constantly ask me for advice and say i am experienced, I don't always feel that way :)
