The sun rose red this morning.
Although 4 hours away - the devastating Victorian bush fires seem so real with the smoke bought in on the southerly breeze from them.
Australia's worst natural disaster - 181 confirmed dead already - it seems incomprehensible how so many lives could be lost - how huge the fires are - how quickly they move.
But what is even more incomprehensible is that someone would be stupid enough to light them - in all the heat.
As the smoke lies heavy over Sunnyside, our hearts are heavier still for the victims & their families.
You are in our prayers.
"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble." Psalm 9:9 (NIV)

I was wondering how close they were. 4 hours is still a bit close for comfort, they are moving at a frightening pace. I've been praying for you guys since I didn't know what was happening near you. I assumed you were at the least covered with smoke and ash fallout. Do any of you have any breathing problems?
Praying for the rain they have been predicting for the south... without the lightning!
The smoke has blown in on us too, although not as heavy as you.
It's just such an awful event - how did 108 people die? I can't understand it.
Our Prime Minister said the arsonists, if caught, should be charged with mass murder. I agree. But I am afriad our judicial system will let us all down again.
isn't it strange. we are only 45 minutes away and yet with the wind blowing the other direction it's as if it is nowhere near us. Joining with you in prayer for all of those affected...
You will certainly be in our prayers, Renata. Keep safe, and keep praying. I can't believe this is all happening- in our country. It's devastating, and amazing how the smoke has moved that far. Love to you and yours,
Saminda.
What incredible photos Renata :( I admit, at the moment I am having trouble turning on the tv. All we can do is pray. xo
It is devastating to watch. If only we could tip Australia up and let the floods from the North douse the fires from the South.
Stay safe,
praying for you all,
luv

Oh my goodness, this is such a terrible tragedy. We will join you in prayer.
Thinking of you! Praying for the families that have been affected and praying that no-one else has to suffer. Stay safe!
Oh my prayers are with you. I grew up in Southern California. We lived our lives by wildfire season. The last 2 southern California fires left my families evacuated and praying for days! I'll keep you in our prayers.
Pretty Organizer
It is devasting. There are so many people hurting and grieving. It is wonderful to see people's generosity in this terrible time.
It is good to know so many people are praying.
It is so heart wrenching. We pray thanks that those we love down there are safe but can't we get those images out of our minds. All those lives for someones quick thrill. Its just so sad. It must be daunting seeing the smoke. We drove down through that area just this Christmas going to drew's folks and commented on how gorgeous it was and it would be a beautiful place to live. It's hard to imagine it all gone. We pray for those with lost loved ones, those still trying to find loved ones, and those that have to restart their lives.
I can't believe how bad these fires are and all that they have consumed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your countrymen as you begin a new day and continue to fight and pick up the pieces. Let me know if there is anything I can do my dear. Stay safe. 4 hours seems way too close for comfort in my book.
Hi Renata - I have been thinking of you and your family the last week and am thinking of you,
