Yesterday evening was the schools swimming carnival. It's held in the evening here because usually it's too hot to swim during the day (sounds like a contradiction I know - I mean it's so hot that the children will all end up burnt to a crisp if they attempted it). This year however it was completely different. On Wednesday a cold front moved in (& thankfully cleared the smoke). Yesterday was the coldest day so far - we were wearing jumpers. Unfortunately by afternoon it began to rain, so it wasn't the best day for a swimming carnival (what a shame it wasn't last week when we were getting 45 degree days)!
(Zai & Ellie having fun in the "partner" race - they were meant to run together, but Ellie just let Zai tow her along - it's great to have a brother in the next grade!)
The carnival began at 4pm with the children marching down the street from the school (they still had a normal school day beforehand) in their teams yelling their "war cries". The kinder & year one students then had a mini carnival in the little pool. This was run by Ellie's teacher & it just involved some different races & games.

Unfortunately due to the cold temperatures out of the pool, it made it freezing for the wet children when it wasn't their turn to race. Zai & Ellie both persisted (tough kids) & still had lots of fun (although it did finish very early - & we went home as my children were almost turning blue!!)
(Ellie's actual swimming is coming along well!)
Ellie ended up with 2 firsts & a third & Zai got a second & a third! Well done!!
(Zai in the "bucket" race!)
The best thing about an evening swimming carnival is that they get the next day off school!!!!
So Dave & Zai have gone off on a "dads n' lads" camping trip with some friends from church! (Yes I did think he was a spoilsport for not taking the twins...wouldn't that be fun camping, rain & 2 two year olds!!!)
Ellie & I are going to have a girls night & watch "little women" on our projector!!

Looks like tons of fun!
Looks like fun!
The adoption is going good - still in the midst of paperwork, but making progress!
Looks like they had fun even though it was cold. It has been cold here for the last two days aswell.
Our infants kids dont have a swimming carnival but they do have an 'activity day' to make up for it.
Wwwwwelll Dddddone kkkkids! Sorry my teeth are chattering with them.
Hi Renata;
I am trying not to be jealous that you are swimming, while I am throwing a ton...a TON ...of snow clothes in the dryer.
Your carnival looks like a lot of fun...sweet, sweet family you have.

Hard to believe there was such a change in temperature from a few days ago!!!! We're glad for everyone's sake that it's cooled down (except for the poor little kiddies in the swimming carnival!!!) Anyway, looks like they had a great time in spite of the weather! Tell them well done....Can't believe Dav didn't take his other two 'lads' away!!!!! oh well, one day maybe!!! (Mind you, I can't blame him). Hope you & Ellie have a great girls' night... do you have the choccy & chips for such an event??????? We're having heavy rain in our part of the world - over 150mm (6inches) last night, and apparently the weekend may be wet...hope Victoria gets some soon!
Have a great weekend. Love you all heaps..love mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
WHAT A BLAST! I don't know why we don't have evening swimming carnivals here, seems like it'd make sense to me. I hated swimming carnivals, I was always a big red lobster the next day which isn't an attractive look (and I wasn't much good at swimming either).
Looks like such a great time and it's so crazy to see such summery pictures while we are in the midst of winter here :)
What a cool way to do swimming carnival. It looks like fun. The community there knows how to have fun by the sounds of things. Hope you and Ellie have a great night!
It all sounds wonderful! What a great idea, doing the carnival at night. :) Must be the week for it; Saraya's school had their junior carnival yesterday too! The p-3's just had a water afternoon with some games and things. Such a shame it was cold- what bizarre weather we're having. The cold front has now moved up here and we don't even have the fans on. Amazing!
Enjoy little women- it's one of our favourites too!!
Ellie and Zai look like they had fun despite the cold. That's nice that the infants dept were allowed to join in. Out infants don't go to the swim carnival.Dragon and Possum both had their swimming carnival this week too, and wasn't it cold!! Can't believe that last week we were desperate for a cool breeze and this week the breeze is too cold to leave a door or window open. (Didn't go over 15*C here today!)
That looks like so much fun! and what a great idea to have them of an evening! More schools should do that i think, it makes more sense
:-)
I'm so jealous that you can swim right now...especially since the weather man says we'll be having yet another snowstorm tomorrow.
Yippee.
Loooks like sooo much fun!!
Much better than the snow that we have here....BRRRR!!
It still amazes me how our temps are soooo different in the same months!!! :)
